First of all I suggest you look at the Merge/Compare documentation in the FH Help, the Getting the Most from Family Historian 4 PDF and the Knowledge Base at http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... pare_files.
However, bear in mind that your merge is fairly simple as it only involves you and your wife.
Assuming you are using FH V4 Project Folders, I suggest you use the File > Project Window > More Tasks > Copy Project option to create a copy of your family project.
In this new Project use File > Merge/Compare File and merge with your wife's family project.
If both family trees include you two as a married couple or include your children, then the merge should automatically match those records. You will only have a few decisions to make on the Individuals and Families tabs as to what to Merge.
If there are no common records, then simply Keep everything.
After completing the merge, if you were not a married Family couple in either tree, then you will need to create a Family Record for your two Individual Records.

Just display a diagram for one of you, select your box and then hold down the ctrl button and click on your wife and then hit the diagram icon again, to display a diagram based on the couple.

Do you mean in the Focus Window or in a Diagram?
When you have yourself displayed, look in your Property Box, and check that your wife is listed about halfway down on a Spouse: tab.
If not, then click on the tab and click Add Spouse/Partner and then Link Existing Record.
Choose your wife's Individual Record and click OK.
That should solve it.
