Finding Family Historian

Post by d1anep » 19 Jan 2011 03:38

I have had FH installed for about 2 yrs, but not used it for a while. I wanted to go into it today, but can't find the program. I've looked in All Programs, but only the Help program and the PDF on Getting the Most from FH is there. Can anyone suggest where I can find it on my pc. I hope it's not lost as there's a lot of information that I've inputted. Thanks.

Just reinstall it from the CD or trial if you purchased it online. You data should be fine, unless you deleted it. Just search for *.ged in windows.

Or use Windows Explorer and navigate down to

C:Program FilesFamily HistorianProgram

and look for the file Fh.exe

Right mouse click on it, select Create Shortcut, then copy and paste (or drag and drop) this shortcut into your Start Menu.

(this is using XP, Win7 might be different but I'm sure others can point you in the right direction for this if needed).

On 32-bit PC the file path is as davidm suggests.
On 64-bit PC the file path is:
C:Program Files (x86)Family HistorianProgramFh.exe

On any Windows system, right-mouse-click on this file and choose one of the following options:
Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)
Pin to Start menu
Add to Quick Launch Toolbar     (Windows Vista only)
Pin to Taskbar                              (Windows 7 only)

On Windows XP only, left-mouse-hold & drag the Fh.exe to Quick Launch Toolbar.
