Hello Historians,
Can anyone help me with an annoying problem.
I am using Version 4.1.3 with Vista and am having trouble with saving a gedcom file.
I usually go via File,Backup/restore and on the pop up I choose Backup then choose Gedcom file of the 2 offered.
I then go back in and choose Zipfile to save the project, and save that. All works well, until,I go into my Family Historian backups and find that while doing the Zipfile backup,FH has also done a save of the gedcom file, but with a logo for 'I Tunes'.
This of course will not open in 'I Tunes' nor anywhere else and is useless,so I have to delete it.
Where in FH can I find the place where this logo is applied with the idea of changing it to save to the correct place?
Perhaps I should add that I do use I Tunes to listen to Jazz music while I am working on FH,and that the problem happens if I Tunes is on or off.
Thoughts please,would be appreciated

Hello Dave - I hope this helps.
Backups
Firstly, it does not matter which Backup file type you choose (.zip or .ged) only the project .ged file is backed-up.
The .zip file is simply a compressed version of the .ged file.
To restore the .zip file you use File > Backup/Restore > Restore and tell FH which folder to unzip the .ged into.
To backup the whole Project you need to use a Backup Utility to backup the Family Historian Projects folder yourself.
There are FHUG Wish List requests for FH to provide full project backups. Visit the Wish List and Search For Backup to see the details and vote.
I-Tunes Logo
It appears that I-Tunes has mistakenly adopted .ged file types, but they still open OK in FH.
To confirm this please check the logo against the .ged files in you Project Name.fh_data folders.
These are the GEDCOM files that FH normally opens.
It is possible to correct the mistaken logo and revert to FH, but I need to know which version of Windows you are using because the process differs slightly for each one.

Hello tatewise,thanks for your reply.
After reading your instructions I played around with FH and found that the files that I have been deleting (with the I Tunes logo)I have been able to open by using the Open with/Restore,but a bit messy and long winded.
I am using Vista 32bit,if you can advise me on removing the I Tunes logo.
BTW did your Scott family come from London's East End?
Dave.

Hello Dave,
Regarding my SCOTT family, they are based in Yorkshire.
Online details of changing default programs can be found at
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... by-default
Note that the following procedure will only change the current Windows account, but you probably only use Family Historian from one account anyway.
Click
Start and
Default Programs in the right-hand column.
Click
Set your default programs at the top of the list of options.
If
Family Historian is listed on the left then select it, click
Set this program as default below right hand panel, and click
OK and you are finished.
If
Family Historian is
not listed or the above steps do not cure the logo problem then:-
Click
Associate a file type or protocol with a program second in the list of options.
After the list is populated, scroll down and select the
.ged file type (I-Tunes may be listed as the Current Default).
Click the
Change program button upper right to display the
Open with window.
If
Family Historian is not listed under
Recommended Programs, try double-clicking the
Other Programs list.
If still not listed, click
Browse button, locate
C:Program FilesFamily HistorianProgramfh.exe, and click
Open.
Select
Family Historian in the list and click
OK.
You should see that
Family Historian is now listed as the
Current Default program, so click
Close and exit all windows.
The
Family Historian logo icon of a small green family tree on a page should now appear against
.ged files, and double-clicking them should now open FH.
Hope this fixes things.

Hello tatewise, many thanks for your excellent instructions, using the second part of them I found .ged was showing the I tunes logo,I cahanged that to .zip and when I do the zip backup it enters with the zio logo.
I must say i don't use this much I prefer to save the gedfile as I have been doing since FH1,it only came about with FH4 and projects.
Thanks again
Dave.
