Can someone advise me how I can read the How To pages? I have just updated to FH4 from FH3 and I am seeking to know whether I would find it advantageous to import my gedcom files into Projects or not. I gave up on the FHUG website when I had a slow dial up connection but now have a satellite broadband link and still cannot load the different sections of How to' Do I require a special reader or superfast broadband - which is not available in my location?
Or perhaps there are so many FH users wanting to know 'How to' that it is just a case of overload!

Another query: does the wiki knowledge section require a separate password?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Unfortunately the site I made some of the V4 videos on deleted them with out warning and as I had made them via the site I did not have copies.

Redoing them is on my TODO list, but I have not managed to find the time yet Sorry.

The older ones just need Adobe Flash installed to run, so check you have it installed on your browser.

You only require a separate user and password for the Knowledge base if you want to change the contents.

Have looked at the PDF book 'Getting the Most From Family Historian 4'?
Within FH it can be opened using Help > Book: 'Getting the Most From Family Historian 4'.
I suggest reading the Introduction and the first & last page of Chapter 1 that also refers you to the Tips for New & Upgrading Users in the FH Help.

Many users appear to consider it beneficial to use Projects.

There are a few advantages with projects I can think of

1. Charts and related files are kept with the GEDCOM file.
2. You can create Websites and CDs
3. If you take the option to copy media in to the Project Folder, you can simply copy the whole project folder to another computer, with out worrying about broken media links.

Thank you very much for your prompt replies. Jane's explanation was very reassuring for me but I do sympathise with her over the loss of those videos and can understand how she has not had time to redo them.
I can't wait to explore v4 and get back to adding to my family discoveries. But it may be a case of 'more haste less speed' and so I will follow the advice to look at Getting the Most from ....
I found FH3 invaluable and I am sure I shall enjoy the innovations in the latest edition as I get accustomed to them.
All best wishes - Pauline
