I have installed AS (64 bit) on windows 7 and have tried to follow the Getting Started with Ancestral Sources help guide.
Ive loaded a temporary project file which has no sources yet and the individuals appear in the right-hand panel.
The guide says to select individuals, highlight them and add them to the entry using the << button, but having highlighted a person, when I press (or attempt to press) the << button nothing happens! So Ive tried looking and trying things. If I select a census year then Im able to get the person to appear in the LH panel. Is this right, or did I miss something?
Ive then thought, there must be a Create new source button somewhere, but cant find one, Im a little baffled. Can someone help please?

Ancestral Sources Struggling to get started!
I think you are missing the point, AS allows you to enter a Census. So the first thing you do is select the Census page you want to enter, then you enter the details for the Census, year, reference etc.
Then you select the people who appear on the census and attach the image.
Then you select the people who appear on the census and attach the image.

Ancestral Sources Struggling to get started!
Hi Tim
I'd suggest you do this with a copy of your project until you are confident.
Choose a census country and year first
Type in Place, Address, Reference, Other info (see the help page: Ancestral Sources Main Screen: Census Records for details of how to use these).
You may choose to attach an image of the census too but you don't have to.
Then select the individuals and fill in the details into the census grid
If you wish to include a transcription of the census entry then click the 'Auto' button. You may need to edit this transcription to make sure it accurately reflects what the census shows.
Then click Save.
You'll find that A.S. creates a census source with the transcription in it. Each individual will have census, occupations, etc. with citations linking to the source. If you added images then these will be linked to the census source.
Spend some time getting used to what A.S. does, investigate the various options and then when you're happy start to use it with your family history file.
I hope this helps
