Convicts

Doing Australian family history a proportion involves convicts & their transportation.
I find some difficulty in Family Historian in this area.
1) I have tried to set up a fact for convict but cannot figure how to capture all the info needed eg
{indi} was convicted of {offence} at {place} on {date} & sentenced to {penalty}
a) can I get something like this with the existing features or should this the a 'wish list' item?
then
2) a second fact for Transportation (emigration / Immigration seems inappropriate)
{S/He} was transported from {source} on {date} by {ship} arriving at {destination} on {date2}
a) no matter what I've done I cannot get a custom fast to have a {place2}
b) a {date2} would be appropriate as the voyages took variable times of around 3 months
c) can I get something like this with the existing features or should this the a 'wish list' item?

You just need to split some of your facts.

So for example for 1)
Set up Conviction and sentence as two facts

for 2) set up 2 facts (attributes) one for the departure details and one for the arrival details.

The above is probably the cleanest way as you can query on all the fields easily, but you could also use labelled text in the notes, if you don't need to actually build queries on the information.

I have a custom event for 'convicted' where I use the sentence '{individual} was {label} {date} {place}. {note}' and I have set Label as 'convicted' (NB no capital letter).

I also have a custom attribute (not event) for 'sentenced' where I use '{individual} was {label} to {value}. {note}' for the sentence.  In the Advanced... section I have an Auto-create Note of 'Value is the length/amount of the sentence' which is set in double-square brackets (DSB) so that it will not appear in reports, etc. Label is 'sentenced'.

For assignment I use the sentence '{date} {individual} was {label} to {place}. {note}' with the Auto-create note of 'Value is person assigned to' again in DSB.  Label is 'assigned'

Similarly, I have attributes for Sentence Expiry, Ticket Of Leave, Conditional Pardon and Certificate Of Freedom.

My sentence for Immigration is '{individual} migrated to {_place} . {note}'. In the note section I make record of the name of the ship and the date of departure something like 'He/She travelled on the 'Ship Name' which departed on 'date'.  This works for all shipping movements, whether convict or not. [NB : Emigration is then available for use where people for various reasons travelled (with the Label 'travelled') with the advantage of having two places for travel between in the sentence.]

I have a convict flag for each person and have defined a 'Convict' Property Box Tab.
