Property box formatting not copied/saved

Hi,
Will someone tell me where the FH formatting data is kept?

I have installed FH onto a new laptop
The family data is OK when I copy across the family tree data from the desktop but I have lost the extra Tab added to the Property Box and a special column in the Records Window. Both of these items have code behind them.

I have proved that the formatting ia not being copied onto the memory stick so it must be saved else where outside the project file.
When I create a new project on the desktop the formatting is there.
I have just realised that this formatting is not being backed up with the main project data.

Regards
John

A search of FHUG found the following:
http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... 27&ext=txt
I hope this helps. You can find the Records Window Column definitions in the Windows Registry; in my XP the locations is:

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCalico PieFamily Historian2.0PreferencesColumnsRecords Window
Also, you can save the Records Window Column definitions as a Query on the desktop, export that query, and import it to the laptop.

Thank you Jane & Peter for your help.
Do you know if there is a wish list item asking for the settings to be kept with FH project files?

When I do a backup, I expect to be backung up all of my data, we all massage how we want FH to look and work.
No one should be expected to go to the registry to get settings etc.

I would appear from the 'Move FH Settings' instructions that even Diagrams have to be copied across from outside the project folder.

Sorry for the rant but I feel that it is such a basic thing that a backup should include everything.

Remember though that people with multiple projects may not want to set up the views queries etc for each project for them it makes sense to keep them in a shared area.

There is a Wish List entry dating back to 2006 for better backups.
See http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldispl ... lwlref=103.

It is arguable whether users with multiple Projects desire different Custom settings for each Project. It should be an option that FH supports.

However, at present FH does not even allow different users with different Windows Accounts to have different Custom settings. They are all stored in the one system wide ProgramDataCalico PieFamily Historian folder instead of the Users{Account}AppData folder per Account.
