I have downloaded Janes icons for BMD & Cenusus as well as US Census icons. As I also have Scottish relatives I would like to distinguish between UK & Scottish Census having the same Census year.
Does anyone know how to create an icon of say the Scottish flag with a date (last 2 digits) imposed on it or to amend jane's icons with the GB / Scottish flag as a background?

Copy one of the standard icons (in XP they are in C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataCalico PieFamily HistorianIcons), rename it then edit it with a graphics program. It can be done with something like MS Paint, which comes with Windows XP, maybe that or something similar with later versions of Windows, or something more sophisticated, like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

Note that it's a bitmap (.BMP) file, and you should aim to make the same size as the original.

As long as you're playing around with a copy of the file, just put new version into the Icons folder and see what it looks like on your diagram - you can't break anything!

I suggest also checking what's available from FHUG Downloads where there are 10 sets of icons.

Further to the above, unfortunately the link PeterR gives does not list all the available icons, because some have been erroneously filed under other headings.

There is a new catalogue in the Knowledge Base via the following link:
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... agramicons

These entries include examples of the icons before you download them.

Wulliam's Icons include different coloured Census and BMD icons for 'England & Wales', 'Ireland', and 'Scotland'.
