FH Test Drive Gaps

Post by Xanthe » 22 Oct 2010 13:07

Hi all,

I am new to this site so please feel free to coach me.

I have been trialing Family Historian and really like it, but have a couple of gaps that I was wondering if I was overlooking.

Tasks
I've read the Guide which suggests using flags for Tasks. I'm not sure how to configure a flag so that it is useful. Usually a task has a topic, description, start date, end date and possibly a suggested repository. Can anyone tell me a good way of tracking a To Do List like this in FH?

Also, my only other gap seems to be around Sources. There appears to be a field to identify whether you have a primary source or a secondary source, but there doesn't appear to be a field to capture whether or not the fact is actually proven.

And last of all, I like to use D'Orbiville numbering for my people. I can do this in my current program through the reporting module. Can I do this in FH?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Use Named Lists. Create yourself a list for each repository or area of research, what ever suits you and just add the people you want to look at and a note of what you want to do, you can then print the named list using the report when you need to visit somewhere for research.

Also, my only other gap seems to be around Sources.

Every Citation has an assessment, so you can add that.
You can also add a note to each citation, with what ever information you want.

I presume you mean the D'Aboville system which looks like the one used by the Descendant outline report to me.

What were you trying to use it for, as the number will be different for each person dependant on the start person for the report.

HiJane,

Thanks for your reply.

I use the numbering system as an index for my people.  I like the structure of the numbering because it is logical and easy to understand.

I only ever use the some rootperson in my report and that is the top of my tree and therefore I don't have to deal with the numbering changing each time I report.

When I am doing general reporting I don't use the numbering system at all.  It is really just my major indexing of people that I use it for.

Thanks for the information about named lists I will look into it.

Hi Jane,

Just checked out the Descendant outline report and that looks like what I am looking for.

Thanks for your help.
