I am considering running Ancestral Sources on a different computer to the one I run Family Historian on.
The reason for this madness is that my main computer runs Linux and sadly I am unable to get Ancestral Sources to work on it.
Do you think this is workable? The 2 computers are networked and so I can give access to whatever files as needed.
I have tried it and failed at the first hurdle. When I click on 'File' on the main menu I only see 'Open GEDCOM File' and not 'Open FH project'. Do you make some check to see if FH is loaded? Is there some way I can trick it into thinking it is loaded.
Thanks
Mike

I've solved it by loading Family Historian on both computers.

Don't forget if you use Dropbox you can keep the Project in Sync between the two machines as it works on Linux and Windows.

Probably too late for you but may help others...
Its not so much that it is checking that Family Historian is installed, but rather it needs to know if you have version 4 installed because if you only have version 3 then you won't be using projects.
It does this by looking to see if there is a string value 'FH Root Folder' in the registry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Calico Pie\Family Historian\2.0\Preferences

Rather than start a new thread this sounded like a good place to ask if I'm doing something wrong (well I know I must be but I'm not sure what!) Anyhow ,in a recent post in the General section I was advised to start A.S on a trial set of data. I'm still working on that but wanted to make sure that when I switch to my main data set it will work on both my PC and my netbook.
At the moment I have FH and A.S downloaded to both and with Dropbox working keep all FH files in sync without problem. When I open A.S and FH and try to see on the PC the work I have done adding census data on the netbook I cannot see on the PC the Project I have started on my netbook. I guess I'm either not saving it properly or it is not being seen by Dropbox but I cannot see why. Can anyone suggest what it is I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in anticipation,
Dagwood

You need to double check where on the PC/Laptop the folder is for the new Project and make sure it's with in the Dropbox folder and that both PCs are using the Location with in Dropbox for the Master Project Folder
