Editor to Find and Replace blocks in Gedcom file
Its a long story but I would like to replace some references to sources in a Gedcom file. These are 'where used within source' so there are lots of them throughout the file. The quickest way is to do a text block find and replace so that I can find the block of lines that I need to change and replace them with a modified block.
Finding an editor that can do this and that is FREE is proving to be very difficult. Most editors will only find and replace 1 line.
I was wondering if anyone else on the Forums had done this and could suggest a suitable editor.
Many Thanks
Peter

I normally use:
http://www.nodesoft.com/searchandreplace/
Additionally, in PSPAD you can add the phReplace plug in which does multiple lines.

Quick Search and Replace has many handy features including Regular Expressions for find and replace, plus batch editing, and it is FREE.
So for example the following meta-characters will find:
t tab (HT/TAB)
n new line (NL)
r car return (CR)
f form feed (FF)
a alarm (bell) (BEL)
e escape (ESC)

Thanks for the replies so far.
At the moment PSPAD with the extension is my favoured option.

It's worth taking a look at Notepad++, too. It also has powerful search/replace functions, including Regular Expressions.

I think only PSPad has the significant added benefit of Jane's extensions to semi-automatically build FH functions ready to paste into Queries or other expression locations:

Another one to add to the list is
PilotEdit Lite
The Lite version is free and can do block find and replace.
