This is my first post so please bear with me.

I currently have a tree that holds all my ancestors from my fathers, mothers, father-in-law and mother-in-laws etc.

What I want to do is create trees for my fathers line, mothers line etc.. However, I do not want to have to keep inputting my details into all the trees, individually. Is there a way to copy my details - in fact any individuals details - including facts, mutlimedia etc. into another tree?

Also, what do you guys/gals do when creating trees as above - do you include your own details in each tree or just start the tree from say your mum - as your details are held in the fathers line tree.

I hope this makes sense.

Personally I have 1 big file with everyone in (my family, my husbands family, my sisters husbands family etc.), as this avoids all these problems and if you need to send someone part of the tree it's easily done using Split Tree or Export.

If you want to move to a single tree, then you can use the Merge File option to merge your trees in to one file.

Alternately you could export from which ever file hold the 'master' for the shared people and then merge the exported file fragment to the other files.

When you say 'trees' do you mean 'Family Tree Diagrams'?

I keep all the 'Individual' details of me, my siblings, wife, children, parents, grandparents, and other relatives in one Family Historian GEDCOM database.

To create a 'Diagram' of one ancestor tree try the following:
Click on your 'Individual' record in the 'Focus' or 'Record' window for instance.
Choose View > Standard Diagrams > Ancestors to show both parents, four grandparents, etc.
Ensure the Expansion Buttons option in the toolbar is on (it is the small circle with a central cross).
To eliminate any branch of the tree click on the Expansion Button circle just above each box.
So to show just your mother's line, click on the Expansion Button above your father's box.
Then to show just your maternal grandfather's line, click on the Expansion Button above your grandmother's box.
So far so good, but if you also want to eliminate the dangling spouses (your father and grandmother), then right-click on each one in turn and select Hidden.
You can then save this Diagram as a Chart and retrieve it later with any new ancestors automatically added.

As Jane said, you can also split off GEDCOM database subsets for any ancestor line.
