In a seperate thread I describe how I am scanning c70 handwritten pages of my mother's life story (1914-2001). My brother is unfortunately going blind and having problems reading anything so I thought a CD with my reading it through would help. There is a lack of sibling gratitude when he remembered Richard Burton is no longer around to be entrusted with the task so yours truly will be doing it after all. The problem is that my brain has not kept up with the move from cassette recorders to PC's and CD's so can anyone advise me on hardware and software needed for me to get this into my PC in a format that can be copied onto a CD? I have Windows7 and Skype with a webcam if that is of any help.
Many thanks

As you have a microphone on the PC, the simplest way is to record the file direct on to the PC.
You can simply use Windows Sound Recorder (or for a slightly more powerful editor try GoldWave http://www.goldwave.com(for the amount of work you need to do, I wouldn't bother buying a copy).
Record the file as a WAV and then you just need to check out your CD burning software for an Audio CD creator (if your brother has a PC or a MP3 player you could simply record it as an MP3 file.

Thank you Jane , I found the recorder under Windows Media Player. I hadn't realised there was any facility for this until your reply. I will try GoldWave as I cannot see how you compile a continuous recording in WMP. I guess it is possible and will continue to see if it can be done as there may be a long term need the more I think about it. If not I may have to invest in GoldWave or find a similar, lower cost, alternative.
Thanks again for your help

Audacity is a very popular open source (free) application for sound recording and editing.
