Running very slow?

Post by aragorn » 24 Aug 2010 18:10

I have one tree (Royal Family) with around 86,000 individuals, over 50,000 families and around 800 images (so far!).This is a complex tree with families and individuals linked all over the place.
My problem is that the file firstly takes a long time to load up (about 5 minutes) and then when adding, linking etc it takes an age for anything to happen,I quite often go off for a cup of tea while waiting!!
I use 2 different computers and seems slow on both.Is there anyway of speeding things up?

The real problem with Royal trees is they tend to have very complex intermarriages, on top of the fact that the files tend to be huge.

I suspect you might be short of memory. Have you checked the size of FH with the file open and your actual memory available on your computer (real memory and not windows swap)

Also if you are using V4 try turning off Auto-Load Thumbnails on loading (Tools/Preferences, General Tab -> Advanced Button)
