Grandchild amp; Unknown Parents

Post by julielou2 » 15 Aug 2010 10:38

I'm trying to put on the 1911 census (using Ancestral Sources) for my 3 x great aunt but the census shows a 1 year old child present (mother not shown on BMD index as child born before 1911). He is described as being the grandson of the female head of the house and he does have the family surname. I'm unsure which of 3 sons was the child's father, or I suppose even which of the daughters might have been the mother, if he was illegitimate.

How can I add the child onto FH now in order to 'log' that census before I know who the parents were but where I do know the grandmother? I know I could manually enter him as I do the servants but I would like the link to the census for when I do find out who his parents are.

Sorry if this has been asked before - I did search and search for grandchild/grandson/grandmother, etc and found nothing.

Many thanks in advance.

Jules

This one has come up many times before. The general consensus seems to be to add a 'unknown' child to the Grandmother and add the Grandchild there, which can be removed once you have the Birth Certificate for the Child and know who they belong to.

Thank you for such a speedy response Jane.  I was sure it would be a common problem - I just couldn't find the solution.

Thank you also for a fab website which I do find most helpful.
