Nick - I have loaded Ancestral Sources and tried a couple of census entries. 1861 seemed to go ok, and is visible on FH, but then I did 1871 - all the detail is in the Log File, but I cannot see it in FH. When I tried to re-do it, Ancestral said the individual already has an entry for this date, do you want to add him to this one? Do I ignore that, and go ahead and re-do it anyway?

Thanks, Helen

Check that you have loaded the correct Gedcom file or FH Project into Ancestral Sources. If you have several copies you may have loaded a copy that isn't the one currently being used by FH.

Gerry's answer is almost certainly correct.

With your file open in Family Historian go to the File menu and select ‘File Statistics’ and note the ‘File name’ (which is actually a file path). Then in Ancestral Sources go to File and Open Gedcom File and navigate to this same file path. Once you’ve opened the file choose ‘Current file is default’ from the File menu – this ensures that this file is opened automatically each time you run Ancestral Sources.

I hope this helps

Thank you to Gerry and Nick. Have followed your instructions and both 61 and 71 census now attached to correct family, and have done the default thing, so hopefully all should be well the next time. If you want to add an image in AS, am I right in thinking it has to be done at the same time as you enter the data - no second chance. If this is the case, then if I acquire a census image later (because I am not organised enough to have them all lined up in advance), then I will just have to add them in as FH Multimedia documents?

Currently yes, but the next version of A.S., which should appear in the next month or so, allows images to be added to existing sources.

The idea though is that you would get the census image, link it and use the image viewer to view the image so that you can enter the census data. In order to enter the info you must presumably have the image?

Best wishes

Nick
