Diagram Text Scheme
Can anyone help with this please:
I've created (well, cloned) a diagram text scheme so diagram boxes display in a compact form like so...
John
Smith
1800-1860
I'm using %INDI.NAME:GIVEN% (%_INSTANCE_%) as the placeholder for the given name but it doesn't display more than one given name, e.g. John Henry Smith still displays as John Smith. How can I fix this please?
TIA

The standard Name only scheme just uses
%INDI.NAME:GIVEN%
and works fine for me, what were you expecting (%_INSTANCE_%) to do? as far as I can see it simply means only the first name is displayed?

Thanks Jane. As I said, I cloned a template and (%_INSTANCE_%) was in the original. I've no idea about the syntax for these fields so I'll just try removing it

I'm not sure where %_INSTANCE_% is documented, if at all. I think it only applies when the diagram general option 'One box per marriage' is selected, and then it displays the relevant marriage number in the 'remarriage' box. Thus I agree it is almost certainly irrelevant for Paul's text scheme.
Perhaps Paul should try:

Code: Select all
%INDI.NAME:GIVEN_ALL%-

Thank you Peter, that does the trick.
Are these 'variables', 'field names', 'place-holders' or whatever they're called defined in freely available documentation?
Many thanks

If you look in the FH help you will find details for how to build data references etc.
The easiest way to build data references is to use the >> to select them when in the diagram editor, but if you want a description of them use the Query editor instead as that gives you a description of the items at the bottom of the list.

There are several relevant pages available via the FH Help Index, e.g. Date Formats, Name Formats, and Place Formats.
You also get some help from the Data Reference Assistant which pops up when you click on the << Insert button on the Edit Text Scheme Item window:
