Unable to load 1901 tiffs

Is there a problem with FH and downloaded images from the 1901 census on-line? I have Tiff files from the scottish censuses which FH copes with fine but any from the 1901 english census produce the message 'unable to load'. Have I missed a FAQ?

Hi Mike,
It looks like the 1901 site uses compressed tiffs in LZW format and I have the same problem with FH displaying these. I think the Scottish site doesn't use compression. You will need to save the tiffs in a different format. I use tiffs compressed in ZIP format. I'm not sure what image software can convert from LZW tiffs - Photoshop certainly does, but there will be free software out there somewhere to do the same job.

Stu, is correct, any graphics software package should be able to convert the files. IrfanView which is listed on the Links section here, will do the job and is completely free.
