I have two questions regarding the records window
1. I have had to delete 3 items and consequently the numerics now have a gap. Is it possible to make an entry using the missing numbers?
2. Is it possible to print the records window>
I am sure that the answer to these two questions is yes, because I am sure that I have read it somewhere, but foolishly I did not make a note of it.
Any help would be gratefully received
Ron

1. Menu item - Tools / Work with Record Identifiers
This will shuffle everything down to fill in the gaps - BUT everything after the gap will be renumbered.
By searching the Help for 'renumber' I found this bit:
'Family Historian never reuses record ids for deleted records when creating new ones. This means that you may end up with a list of record ids with gaps in it. If you wish you can use this option to renumbers all records of the specified type, starting from 1, and thereby remove these gaps'
Firstly, is this (the 'Record Id') the number that you meant? (There's more than one number possible!)
Secondly, why worry? If the 'Record Id' is meaningful to you, then you shouldn't renumber - nor should you reuse numbers manually (not that you can, so far as I know, for 'Record Id'). If it's not meaningful to you, then why worry about the gaps? (Why do I ask? Simply because I'm all for doing less work!)

As the previous post - it is possible but.... if you have or intend to produce a website - particularly if you plan to add your own pages with links to FH generated pages - then it is definitely not advisable. FH uses the record IDs as part of the urls for each page generated so if you renumber your records the urls for these pages will change and any links you have put into your own pages will have to be remade.I have had to delete 3 items and consequently the numerics now have a gap. Is it possible to make an entry using the missing numbers?
So I guess I am curious also to know why you would want to do this? [smile]
Cheers
Chris

To get a simple list similar to the records window, select view/standard query/All Individuals and then select print.

Hello Adrian Chris & Jane
Thank you for your advice and help. I thought that if I had a gap it may present problems later on. However, I get the message...don't bother...
For you Jane, also thanks, this time I have printed off the topic answer.
What would we mere mortals do without the experts...many thanks again
