I think I'm being a bit dense here. [oops]
When I used V3 I used to periodically make a dated backup of the Gedcom file so I could (if necessary) go back to it in case I deleted something vital or did any other silly thing. I never actually used any of them but was reassured they were there.
Now I'm using V4 and happily using Projects, I am unsure how to do the above. If I save a dated backup into the project folder will it interfere with the 'correct' current version opening when I open the Project? I have 3 separate Projects in named folders in the Family Historian Projects folder.
I can't seem to get my head round what to do - sorry!

Backup copies
I created a folder in the Project Folder called BACKUP (same level as the Public Folder and save my dated backups to there.
If you do need to restore one just restore it over your 'master' GEDCOM file in the fh_data folder to go back to it or save it to the desktop and then copy it in to the right name and place using windows.

Anne, have you switched on the backup facility?
Go to Tools>Preferences and click on the Backup tab. Choose where you want to save the backups and make sure the two tick boxes are selected:

That way you always have the most recent changes saved. The files are quite small even for a large database so there is no real issue with storage. Don't forget to back up to a safe place, but then we all do, don't we!

Thanks for your help. I think I can do it now. I'll create another folder to put dated gedcom copies in - thanks Jane.
Gerry - yes I do back up to an external hard disk and a memory stick and ALSO sometimes put everything on a DVD and send it to my son's house in another town!!! However - what I am backing up to them is the whole FH Projects folder which has the current details on. Goodoh! - now if the dated copies are in there as well they'll get copied over as well
Thanks folks
