Place name dupilcated in lower case

Post by HiTowerUK » 22 Jun 2010 13:14

I type quite fast (and not always accurately!), so when adding an event place name for example, I sometimes forget to hit 'shift' for the first letter of the name. Not always, but occassionally, I end up with a duplicated place name and when I export my Gedcom file into TNG, I end up with duplicated place names in that program too. Here is an example of what I mean:

Exeter, Devonshire, England
exeter, Devonshire, England

I suspect this is something that needs a forced capitalisation of the first character of the first word and unless this is already a 'hidden' feature, will require some amendment of the program??

Best regards
Roger

Place name dupilcated in lower case

Not too difficult to check though, if you use the Tools, Work with data, Places function, then just click on one of the column headings to sort the list.

Just 'pattern scanning' with the eye can usually spot those sorts of things.

I sometimes forget how I've entered a place name and then end up with slight variations for the same place, so I do a fairly regular check using the above function to rationalise things. The 'replace with' button is quite handy for this.
