Printing Charts

Post by SallyL » 05 May 2003 19:24

Generally I like FH very much but the things I miss from other programs are the book reports and more importantly the ability to print box charts.  Can anyone recommend a program that will work with FH that will allow me to print box charts and if possible other types of chart and it would be really great if anyone can point me in the right direction for book reports ... any chance of either of these making it into a new version of FH??

Thanks
SallyL

Hi Sally and welcome.

Narrative reports are on the wish list, so keep your fingers crossed.

Not sure what you mean by Box charts?
You can do Ancestor, desendant and hour glass charts plus the All Relatives, what were you looking for?

Printing Charts

[oops]

Yup you're right you can do the charts ... there's so much to find your way round I hadn't really found them which is completely stupid of me and very embarrassing.  However, now I've found them could you please tell me how I get a basic descendent chart to print on only one page instead of spreading over two.  The chart would happily fit on one landscape page as I only want the parents and the immediate children.

Thanks
A very embarrassed Sally

You may need to move the page boundary.
When the chart is displayed press the page display button at the top, the one with the cross and the 1 on it.

This will show the page boundaries.
Click on the whole chart button (world) and the whole chart will be visiable.

Put your mouse on a page corner and hold down the left button.  You can then move the chart around until it fits as you want.  You can also right click on the background of the chart and use the Size when printed to make the whole chart larger or smaller in respect to the paper.

You may need the page set up option on the File menu to change the paper to landscape if it is not already set that way.

[cool]

Hi Jane

Well I've moved boundaries and had a lot of fun printing the charts and things just get better and better.  I narrative book style report would be just the icing on the cake to a really easy to use but very comprehensive genealogy program.

Thanks
Sally

This is brilliant. I spent several hours trying to work out how to do this, even reading the manual, but to no avail. Now I can print on one page instead of four. Should have tried this forum first.  Thank you

I found a useful feature today.
If you right click on the page junction rather than left click you can resize the chart!

You can not export to an image at the moment although it is on the wish list.

You can use a pdf printer driver (like pdf995) or Adobe Distiller if you have it.

You can find the adware version of pdf995 at
http://www.pdf995.com/
I does not use any nasty ad lurkers, just starts up IE and displays an ad, if you are offline it does not get very far, but still creates the PDF

Great forum!!

As a new user (moved from the trial copy to the full box version tonight...) this was one of the things that annoyed me and I could not find a work around. Now I know it!

[smile]As a potential new user thinking of moving from FTM v10, the function of output to PDF is very useful.  I have been able to go to the printer with a  PDF of a large tree and get it printed onto A3 sized paper in colour. That is one good thing about FTM but having looked at the demo version of FH I think that I will move to it soon.
