* IE8 not displaying EMF file information

When I created my website I used EMF files for all my family tree pictures that Family Historian created. All previous versions of IE displayed them correctly, but all I get in IE8 is a red cross. See http://www.wyerd.co.uk/fhpublic/toc1.html

Should I be using a different format now or is there an issue with IE8?

I am not sure why you are using EMF, for pictures as it's essentially a vector graphics format. If you are talking about diagrams, you are better saving as png (or PDF) if you want to use them on the web as it's fairly efficient with graphics, with out the limitations of requiring extras on some browsers as EMF does.

Personally I use jpg for storing photographs saved at a high quality. If I am going to do a lot of editing I use PSD or Tif and convert once I have finished the editing.

They're not actually pictures, they're the created family tree diagrams.

The diagrams are pictures or, more correctly, images.  On your example link, the image doesn't show in Firefox or Safari either.  It probably won't make any difference but naming the file without spaces (use the underscore _ instead) is generally regarded as good practice.

My understanding has always been that many browsers (all?) do not support .emf files without special plug-ins which most users will not have installed.  The three common formats are .jpeg, .gif and .png.  I use .png generated by FH for diagrams as I find they are a better quality than the .jpg ones.

Thanks. I'll give that a go - strange as it used to work with IE6 and I think IE7 as well without any problems.
