I recently found an extension to my family tree on Ancestry but cannot be sure of the accuracy of all the details until I check them out.
I opened a new project to store these details but I wondered if it was possible to add them to my original tree, perhaps in a different colour or fainter font and then correct them as necessary and add to the tree as permanent members.
That way I could look at the whole tree and immediately see any further checking that needed to be done.
Is there any facility for this in FH?

One way would be to give each of the new entries a flag. Then you could use this flag to alter the features of the person's box in a diagram. So for example you could change the box colour or its shape or change the font.
You could also put all of the 'new unproven' people into a dedicated list and then remove each one from this list as their link is proved.

What I also do is make a single source for all the added information (if you merge you can automatically add it), that way you know where the information came from, and optionally you can remove that source when you replace it with better sources.

I'll need to read up on flags but wouldn't it be a lot simpler just to have a tick box on the gedcom import which would automatically merge it to the family tree in a differnt colour/font? Or am I missing something?

Using a flag will allow you to set any colours or fonts you want.
You can use the automatic source addition to add a source as I suggested and then using a Query based on the source use to set a flag.
The main advantage with using Flags or sources, is you can control how to display your suspect information.
