In Gedcom Census I chose the Image Title 'Same as file name' and ticked the box 'Rename file to match tile?'.

All my images were duly re-titled to match the Census record.

In Ancestral Sources I have follwed the same procedure and chosen the same options. However my images are not being renamed.

I am obviously doing something stupid - can you tell me what?

I think the new program is excellent. I really like the ability to add new people as you go, rather than having to return to FH to do it.

Thanks,

maggie

If you have the option to use the same title as the filename then renaming would be pointless as the title and the filename already match!

I suspect you actually mean that you used the GC option 'Same as source title' so this is the option to choose.

Best wishes

Nick,

I told you I was stupid!!

What I should have said was:

In Gedcom Census I chose the Image Title 'Same as Source Title' and ticked the box 'Rename file to match title?'.

Today, as an experiment, I entered 2 censuses using Gedcom Census with these options and the images were re-titled.

I then entered another census using AS (having checked that I had chosen the same options) and the image was not renamed.

Any ideas?

Regards,

maggie

Funnily enough I wrote a reply to this last night assuming you had said 'same as source title', then spotted you had actually said 'same as file name' so I kept a copy of my answer in case it turned out you meant source title :) and here it is:

I suspect the images are being renamed (otherwise this would be a widely reported problem). Here's my guess at what might be happening...

When you save the image do you get an option to copy the image into your project folder?

If you do and you are clicking on Yes then it is copying the image from whereever it was into the Media folder within your project and it is that file which is being renamed. This means that you’ll find your image files are in your project Media folder (with the new name) rather than where perhaps you might expect them to be.

This is now standard behaviour for Family Historian 4 and all I've done is mimic this behaviour in Ancestral Sources i.e. when you select a file which isn’t already in the media folder it offers to copy the file there.

If you don't want the images to be copied into your media folder then click 'No' when asked.

I hope this makes sense and answers your question.

I understand now.
