Please could anyone tell is there a way to do a query to show the oldest date of every surname in my tree, or am I being too ambitious. I would just like to see how far back I have gone with certain people and this would really help.

You can only return rows at the individual level, but you could simply add everyone with no Father to list the potential top of each male line branch.
If you are only interested in your own lines, just add All your ancestors, then exclude unless Family As Child is Null.
