I would like to be able to identify all persons listed in my family tree (which contains in excess of 5000 entries) who originated from the same village. Please help.

Go to the Query Store form the Main Menu and download custom query Places.fhq on page 3.

Strictly speaking that query does more than the OP wants, as it finds all individuals with any one of several major life events (Birth, Baptism, Marriage, Death, Burial) occurring in the entered place.
For individuals who originate (i.e. are born in) a particular Place, all that's really needed is the first Row selection criteria:
Add if %INDI.BIRT.PLAC% contains ['Place']
and the appropriate Column selections, e.g Name, Birth Date, Birth Place, Birth Address, perhaps.
When executed, the query prompts for a text string (place name or part thereof) and lists all individuals whose birth place (NOT Address) contains that text string.
