I have a gedcom created with 4.1 version. I use a net book and a laptop to work on this file. I use a portable hard drive and every time i use either device i copy the project file to the relevant documents folder. All ok untill today when itried to open the file when it comes up with unrecognised file format and implying that if if i wish to insert media into file please use the insert menu.
Has this happened to anyone else??
I have compared the gedcom file with others and there is no difference. I have also opened other gedcom files with out issue. This indicates the gedcom file to be at fault but what and how???
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance

You need to copy the whole folder not just the project file to the other computer, and put it in the Family Historian Project Folder.

Hello Jane
Have done this as well but to no avial.
Have checked the version and its version 4 on the netbook and version 4.1 on the laptop. So i am unsure if this is an issue and has it happened elsewhere??

I can't think what the problem is, unless somewhere along the line the file has become corrupted, if you open the gedcom file with notepad does it look correct?

Hi Jane have just opened the gedcom file with note pad and there is nothing at all. Looks like its corrupted in some way.[frown]

Just use the restore option to recover your most recent backup. I imagine windows must have scrambled the copy some where along the line.
