I am not sure what box you are talking about?
Normal entry of images for certificates are added against the source and not against the person or fact directly. the source for a birth will often end up against the family as child for that child as it's often the first time the parent information is entered.

Jane, the box I mean is the one that comes up when you link the image to,so I have one for the birth cert with a date that i have entered on it then when I do the marr another box comes up I enter that marr but when I then look at the birth one some but not all boxes of births have had the marr details in them

Are you talking about the media window, the Fact tab on the property box or somewhere else?
How are you linking your media images and to where, to a fact, to a source, to a person?
If you screen grab and post the screen you are looking at I might be able to work it out from that.

Jane, do I now understand that each person has an individual id number then when a source is entered it gives a source id number that you then put into the ind number ie if you have a birth a marriage and a death you will have one ind number and 3 source id numbers, and for each source you then add the image to that source box and not an individual box

You would create a source with e.g a title 'Birth of Joe Bloggs 1/5/1890' and link your image to that.
Now your birth certificate will have a lot of information on it for example:
Create a birth fact for the individual and add a citation linking to the source.
Create an occupation fact for the father and add a citation.
Create a residence fact for the father and add a citation.
Create a residence fact for the mother and add a citation.
etc.
There's a more detailed description in the Knowledge base on this site describing Entering details from a Birth Certificates that you may find useful. There's also an article explaining sources.

Having successfully followed the tutorial for adding info from a birth certificate I was wondering rather than:-
Create a residence fact for the father and add a citation.
Create a residence fact for the mother and add a citation.
is it possible to enter the residence fact once but have it linked to both records?

No, but you could simply copy the Fact between them once you have entered it.

appleybridger, sorry to contradict Jane, but yes you can enter the residence fact once but have it linked to both records.
Jane, is sort of right in that it is not a built-in feature of FH, but you can easily add a Custom Fact that does what you want.
Use Tools > Work With Fact Sets.
Click on Residence and then the Properties button.
Make a note of the Fact Definition, in particular the Template, and click Cancel.
You are now going to create a similar Fact but for a Family couple.
Click the New button.
In the Create Fact Definition window click Help for more advice.
Enter the Fact Name such as Co-residence.
Select the Fact Type as Attribute from list.
Select the Record Type as Family from the list.
Choose the above carefully as none can be changed later, short of deleting the Fact and starting again.
Accept the Fact Set name of Custom or type in your own choice of name (you can change it later if necessary).
Click the Create button.
In the Fact Definition window click Help for more advice.
The Name and Label should already be filled in.
Enter an Abbreviation such as Resident.
Replace the Template with {date} {couple} were resident {place}.
You can change all but the Name later if necessary.
Click the OK button.
You will now find you have a Co-residence Fact you can add once to couples with Place and Address details.
Alternatively, you could visit the FHUG Downloads > Fact Sets and download Kinsfolk Facts & Sources which provide a number of useful Custom Facts including Co-residence.

Its a really bad idea in my opinion to use family facts for residence. A family may consist of a man and wife and later several children. If you create a residence fact linked to a couple and then later you add children to this couple then this family residence fact will appear to apply to them too, even though they were not at the address at that time. This is the same reason why Census family facts are a bad idea.

Interestingly, 'The GEDCOM Standard' Draft Release 5.5.1 appears to include a RESIdence tag for the FAMily event structure.
It states: RESI {RESIDENCE} := An address or place of residence that a family or individual resided.
Also, all the other Family Events/Attributes in GEDCOM 5.5 and FH only relate to the married couple, and never seem to extend to their children.
My interpretation is that children only appear in the FAMily record in order to identify their parents, not to inherit any of the parent Events/Attributes.
