I have been using GEDCOM census for some time now and used to input data manually into the souce text box which would then come through into the note box on an individuals record within FH (I am using v 4)eg things like unrecognised people -lodgers, boaders who might fall into place later as husbands, brothers etc. However the source text box on Ancestral Sources does not seem to do this, it just puts the notes against the source not the individual, or am I doing something wrong. Can you tell me what I should be doing to get these notes on an individual record
Thanks

Do you mean you use Record Method 1 in Gedcom Census with the miscellaneous option (second in the list): 'Copy Census source text into Note field of each individual's census entry'?
Assuming this is what you mean then this was always an option in Gedcom Census that was 'not recommended'. Its pointless. The information is linked to every individual anyway because they are linked to the source where the text is and can be seen at the click of a button. Your method just fills your file up with the same data repeated all over the file. Why would you want to record unrecognised lodger information in the census event of every single person in the entry?
Anyway I'm sorry but it isn't supported in Ancestral Sources.

With the Christmas break I have finally downloaded AS, which seems really good - I've always found Gedcom Census really useful and this looks even better. I'm a bit confused about source text though. I am one of those awkward people who have always used Method 2 so with Gedcom Census the source text would appear against each individual, and I can replicate this in AS. In AS though you make the suggestion of it being in a linked note (which seems very sensible as it saves duplication and saves retyping when you realise you transcribed one thing wrong!). I've ticked this option on the settings but when I reopen FH and look at the individual, I don't see where to find the linked note. Or should I be creating this myself within AS? Thanks for your help.

Using the linked notes is one of those things in Family Historian which appears to be only accessible via the records window rather than in the properties window.
I believe if you use a report it should appear in the list of sources at the end.
Hope this makes sense

Thanks, Nick - finally found it buried deep in the records. It prints out fine as a sources note when printing a report, but I do like to be able to glance over at the transcription when looking at facts in the properties window. So will have to stick with the complete transcription against each individual for each census, until I can be persuaded to change my ways and opt for Method 1. Just can't quite face all those hundreds of sources though...
Thanks for the quick response and Happy New Year.

PS. Small contribution on its way - AS and GC are both great add-ons to Family Historian and I wish you all the best with future developments.
