Multimedia in V4

Post by lindad » 18 Apr 2010 12:03

I've been using FH for five years or so via V2 and V3 but, until the advent of V4, had never bothered to attach multimedia files to my data. Have now done so (adding 100+ images), and it's wonderful! At least it was...

It was working fine - but now although each record is showing that there are X number of images attached, I get a message saying 'unable to load object'. I think all was working well until I uploaded the V4 update, but can't be positive.

Would renaming the file name have caused this? (Bit of a pain if so...!) And please can anyone tell me how I can solve the problem? Am not keen on the idea of having to delete and re-attach over 100 photographs!

When attaching the images, I have been copying them to FH. However, I can't work out where FH is storing these copies. The file system does seem a bit confused and, of course, Vista's file storage system doesn't help!!

Would appreciate any wisdom that people can offer...

Best wishes,

Linda

Did you watch the Project introduction in the How Tos.

That explains how projects work.

If you have been using a project, you should not be renaming the gedcom file, but rather install the V4.1RC which includes renaming a project.

REMEMBER in V4 a Project is the whole folder and not just your Gedcom file, so you need to copy the whole folder.

Try renaming your file back to the same name as your project and remember (if still on V4.0 open your project from the Project window, or by default and not by double clicking on the gedcom file, this is fixed in V4.1)
