User Interface Queries

Post by rt » 16 Apr 2010 18:08

Nick,

While they’re fresh in my mind, a few very minor questions / comments on the user interface:

1.      When searching the list for an existing image, the “title” option seems to show duplicate titles if a previous census entry has used multiple images. Am I doing something not as intended, or made a mistake? Switching to filenames overcomes this, but (assuming it’s not my error) is there a way that second (& subsequent) images can be distinguished in the title list?

2.      Viewing images in W7 explorer & AS, the default mouse actions differ. In both, hold down mouse left-button will move the image. In W7, the scroll wheel zooms in / out on the image, but in AS that doesn’t appear to happen. So every time I have to use the drop-down or +- buttons to resize the image. This is ok when making just a few census entries, but becomes very tedious if doing a reasonable number. Is there some way I can set the system so my mouse scroll wheel will zoom in the AS image window?

3.      A nice-to-have would be a few more entries in the “relation” drop-down, just to save typing the entries when they occur. I’d suggest nephew, niece, grandson, granddaughter, and maybe son in law, daughter in law. Possibly a setup option to have an extended list?

Can we add relationships to the drop down list ourselves?

So far I have had Boarder, niece and various in-laws

They can't be distinguished by title and this has been standard behaviour for years now in Gedcom Census. The filename automatically gets a 1, 2, 3, etc. added afterwards to avoid duplications so I suppose there's no reason why the multimedia name can't have a number added on the end too. I've added it to the AS wishlist. For now you can distinguish them by clicking on the image and looking at it, or by viewing the filename as you mentioned.

I guess it could be an option. The wheel moves the scrollbar to view the rest of the magnified image and in most applications this is standard behaviour which personally I find more useful than having it zoom in.

Added to the wishlist.
