Linking Image to Census Event

Hi Nick,
First, thank you for a super program. I've only been using it for a couple of hours but I'm sure it will be a permanent feature on my start menu from now on.
I read on the Gedcom Census forum that you are working on attaching images to events as an option. Is there an option for linking an image to a census event in AS?

I've not done any development work on Gedcom Census for a couple of years so I've certainly not said I'm working on attaching images to events as an option unless it was long ago. You should consider GC to be obsolete now - Ancestral Sources is the way forward.
Ancestral Sources allows you to attach images to the census source if using the standard recording method 1 - one source for each census household.
If you prefer to use method 2 (few sources and more data in citations) then you can choose to attach images to all the facts/events (census, birth, occupation, etc.) or to all the citations or just to the census facts or census citations. These can all be selected under Tools->Options.
The next version of Ancestral Sources will allow you to add images to existing census entries if you didn't attach images at the time.

Thanks for the quick reply.
The forum entry I refer to was back in May '09.
'The next entirely new version that will be released later this year will have support for event images (I've already written that bit!) but you'll have to wait for that I'm afraid.'
I must have misunderstood your meaning. Anyway not a great loss as it doesn't take me long to manually link the image.

The 'entirely new version' I was referring to was Ancestral Sources but I didn't finish it in time to release it last year! As I said in the post I'd already written the part which links images to census events and as I said in my previous message you can link images to census events. However, I assume you must mean to existing census events, in which case you'll need to wait a few weeks for that.
Cheers
Nick

Hi,
I don't wish to link to existing events. When I create a new census entry using AS method 1, it creates the multimedia entry, links a new source record to the multimedia and links the source to the census event. I would like to link the multimedia directly to the census event.
I'll try method 2 and see if that is what I'm looking for.

Why link the images to the events? If the image is linked to the source (as it is with method 1) then this means that the image is linked to every fact related to the census entry as the facts are linked to the source. These images are easily viewed (just as easily as an image linked directly to an event) and can be displayed in reports, etc. This is all achieved by just a single link between the source and the image.
You get no benefits from linking the image to the census events but you get the disadvantages of there being lots more links in your file to maintain (every census event having a link to the image), making your file bigger. Also all your other related events (occupations, etc.) won't have the image link making it more long-winded if you want to refer to the census page to perhaps clarify the occupation described.
