pdf file output

Post by barnabas » 03 Apr 2010 14:21

I have a number of diagrams prepared through V4 and saved as JPEG images and wish now to save them as pdf files to send by email.  However, when I try this 'save as' function a message appears to say 'pdf is not enabled'.
My computer is installed with Windows 7 so I am surprised by this message.
Can anyone advise me?
Thanks

pdf files are not image files, so you couldn't just convert jpeg to pdf by 'saving as'. If I wanted to do that, I'd paste my jpeg into a Word document, then 'print' the document as a pdf, discarding the Word document afterwards. There may be other solutions!

FH says PDF not installed for one of 3 reasons

1. You are running Windows 98, in which case download Cute PDF or similar.

2. You have deleted the Family Historian PDF Printer

3. You have uninstalled Nova PDF.

If it's one of the two latter ones, the quickest way to fix it is to load the 4.1 Release Candidate from the Family Historian site.

P.S Maureen, I think Barnabas was trying to save as a PDF within Family Historian

arishmell and Jane: Thanks for your replies. However, I'm not running Windows 98 but rather it's the latest Windows 7 operating system. I have installed on my computer Family Historian v4 and Family Historian PDF file (nova PDF 6.1 printer) so I'm surprised I can't save the JPEGs as PDFs.  I suspect there may be a compatibility problem re. FH4 and my computer's Windows 7 platform?

No help in resolving I know - but I am running Windows 7 and FH 4.1 RC1 - and saving diagrams as PDFs works just fine.

I am not sure why you are trying to save jpgs as PDFs if you want to same diagrams as PDFs take the option from the Diagram menu to do so.

JPGs are picture files and PDFs are print ready files FH is a Family History recording system and not a graphics converter.
