Problem with latest upgrade on V4

Post by Dagwood » 01 Apr 2010 08:43

Hi, yesterday I downloaded the upgrade to V4 fully appreciating it is prior to the official launch date. All looked fine and I can see definite improvements .Then while working from a diagram I clicked on the top of a branch of the tree clicked to make him the focus before clicking on to show a descendants tree. The screen partially blackened and flickered three times before Windows 7 shut the computer down with a warning that it had done so before any damage was caused to the computer.
All restarted ok but on trying the same op again the flickering restarted. I hit the red X in top rh of screen and it exited ok before the Windows shutdown could start.
Is this a known bug? Am I doing something wrong? It's never happened on the pre upgrade version4 so appears to be connected to the downloaded version.
I'm sure it can't affect the computer but it's worrying nonetheless.
Any help appreciated

Problem with latest upgrade on V4

I have certainly not heard of this issue and can only assume it's an unusual combination of drivers or similar.

Can you try changing the printer you have as the default and try the option again.

Also does this happen on with this specific individual or with others as well. If it's just that one person, please try a validate over your file.

I would also report this direct to support@family-historian.co.uk, as I am sure they will want to investigate.

Hi - as Jane says: please post an email about this to support@family-historian.co.uk.  If you're happy to do so, please include your GEDCOM file as an attachment, together with instructions on exactly what we need to do to reproduce the problem (if we can reproduce it).  Thank you.

Hi there Jane and Simon, thanks for the prompt replies and I have started the ball rolling with a copy of the text and the file sent to the address you gave . I'll try the other bits this afternoon when I get some time and see if it is just the one record, the printer ,or 'validating ' the record. Is that something straightforward and easy to do?
Thanks
Dagwood

Validate... is an option on the File menu in FH.

Many thanks Peter R. All seemed ok with Validation.
With regard to the other suggestions, I've tried everything suggested both here and from FH suport and cannot replicate the problem either with the changes or returning to the original settings. A puzzle but, for the moment at least, without the problem!
Thanks to all who helped
