Saved diagram lost pics

Post by jstark » 22 Mar 2010 16:29

This is probably something simple, but...
I have opened a diagram saved a couple of years ago, to update.
All as it was, with pictures and text, etc., except for 3 boxes: these 3 have a pdf logo/icon where the picture should be. (Picture is jpeg, and displays correctly in person's own record).
None of these people are linked to any pdf.
The 3 pictures are all originally from the same photo.
Any help for a very untechnically-minded user to put situation right gratefully received![confused]

What version of FH are you using?

If you check the Property Box for the person on the media tab, do you have some PDFs there as well as images? If so make sure the PDF are set to not shown on diagrams.

Hi Jane,
I'm using V3.1
The 3 people are linked only to jpegs, no pdfs (nor any other formats)in their records at all.
In the Property Box media, their pictures open as normal - just not on the diagram.  Have tried altering the picture preference order, removing picture and putting back again,  but still get the pdf symbol, just for these 3 people.
I could start the diagram from scratch, but would rather not as it has a lot of insertions and extra trees.
Grateful for any suggestions...

Do any of the people have multimedia which are flagged as to be excluded from diagrams (you can set this in the Multimedia tab again)?  If so, I would try changing those flags and see if that does anything.

Also, you say you've tried changing the picture preference order.  Do you mean in the Picture tab of Diagram Options?  Or in the Multimedia tab for the people in question?  I would try both but particularly the latter, if you haven't aleady - and see if that jogs FH into correcting the problem.

You say it's a PDF symbol.  Are you quite sure of that?  Could it be some other symbol?  It seems a very unlikely thing to be seeing if FH is trying to display a JPEG.

If you want to, you could email both your GEDCOM file and your chart file to support@family-historian.co.uk and we could have a look at it, and see if we can spot anything.  You should also include the Ids of the 3 people that appear incorrectly, and, ideally, a snapshot close-up of what you see in diagrams for one of these boxes.  If you also included one of the images that isn't appearing correctly, that would be better still.

Simon,

Thanks for your reply.
I have been playing with this, and it resolved itself when I removed the image from FH and then reinserted it from scratch. It then displayed normally. No idea what happened.

To answer your questions, though:
Preferences - I meant in the (person) Multimedia tab
No flags at all for these 3 people
The symbol was the Adobe pdf logo - checked one of the versions I saved whilst investigating, where it's still showing. The new version opens correctly, so will keep fingers crossed (which is about the limit of my technical prowess!)

Many thanks once again,
j.
