Combining Source Citations

Post by RSellens » 10 Mar 2010 14:26

Hi all,
On the Individual Summary Report, i have the option to 'Combine Identical Citations for the Same Source' and on the whole this has been working fine (i.e. if i point to the same specific birth certificate source). However, i recently started adding some more generic sources for some miltary records (i.e. a medal roll) and then using the 'Where within Source' and 'Multimedia Object' on the source usage for a person to add the specifics for that person. Now, if i use that same 'source' multiple times (with exactly the same 'Where within Source' and 'Multimedia Object') they are not combining and being listed as seperate sources. The GEDCOM source for the references i use is as follows (its the source id 2099 that does not get combined):

1 _ATTR Victory Medal
2 TYPE Military Award
2 SOUR @S898@
3 QUAY 3
2 SOUR @S2099@
3 PAGE Roll : E/1/101 B6 - Page : 1029
3 OBJE @O2353@

Is this just a 'feature' of the combine not looking at the complete reference ?

Combining Source Citations

I suspect because the media is locally attached rather than to the source record, it's being classed as different one.

Does the wording come out identically?

Combining Source Citations

Richard,
I find that provided any text items attached to the citations are identical, the source citations are indeed combined in the report.  But the sources will still be shown separately for each individual in the report, unless using the option for Location of Source Citations 'At the end of the report'.  Attaching a multimedia reference to one of the citations made no difference.  Perhaps it would help if you could copy and paste examples of two source citations that should be combined in the report, but which are not.

Hi Jane,
Yes the wording is identical (i have even copied the whole source from one field to the other to be sure). I think it's the media as well.

Hi PeterR,
The report is only on the one individual, so i am not looking at the combination across people but on the sinlge person.

Richard
