Exporting Gedcom lt;pipegt;Files

Post by PeterD » 07 Mar 2010 11:42

When I export a gedcom file , When I try to open it I get an error message XXXX.ged is not a valid win32 application file, and previous exported files now get the same message.
Can anyone help please

Peter,
This sounds like you may be trying to open XXXX.ged by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer. This only works if the file extension 'ged' is associated with an appropriate application, in this case FH. You should be able to start FH and use the menu options to open XXXX.ged or, in Windows Explorer you should be able to right click on XXXX.ged and, from the context menu, select Open or Open With and then the required application, i.e. FH. You may also tick the box (on the 'Open With - Choose Program...' dialog) to 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.

I use Gedmill v1.11.0 with Win7 (32bit) and FH V4.0.2.

Can you open the exported file using Family Historian ?

Have you tried uninstalling / reinstalling Gedmill ?
