Error when trying to delete a custom query?

Hi Guys

Recently my desire to tidy up my Tree dragged me into the inevitable position of removing a custom query from my cluttered list – originally I got it from the downloads section and had no problems in using it.

For some reason every time I try to delete it now I get the following error message 'An error has occurred – cannot delete query' I noticed someone else had a similar problem in Nov 2009 and the someone else had a solution for the complainant which worked.... specifically find - '...Application DataCalico PieFamily HistorianQueriesCustom'

I am using the ever charming 'Vista' (okay, so it's not so charming, but I am not in a position to get rid of it even though I would love to) – as a consequence I can't find the directory folders / structure as mentioned in the answer to the above question.

I have tried the search facility in Vista (rubbish though it is it should have found one of the folders mentioned).
Where the devil does Vista (or Family Historian) hide all these custom queries?

The outcome is that I am unable to delete several no longer used custom queries. Can someone who is in the 'Smarty Pants Brigade' please point me in the right direction. How do I force a deletion of a no longer needed 'Custom' query.

And the first one who says a sledge hammer goes and stands in the naughty corner!

I am fully aware that you cannot delete the 'original' Family Historian queries which is fine, I don't need to, what I do want to do thin out the ever growing list of queries that currently make my lengthy list look more reasonable.

I will thank you all ahead of time for pondering this little problem.

See

for the folder.

You may need to show hidden files on your windows explorer view, or simply type the address in the location bar at the top.

Hello Julie,

I'm one of those who has almost gone bald trying to resolve Microsoft issues !

I have a Vista Laptop on which I run FH4. The problem with Vista compared to previous versions of Windows is the addition of a new directory called ProgramData in addition to Program Files. Vista splits important data between the 2 and I have yet to work out exactly how (the designer of Vista needs the sledge hammer!).

Anyway, the location of the Queries is - C:ProgramDataCalico PieQueries. In this directory you will find 2 sub-directories a. Custom & b. Standard.

If you go up a level to C:ProgramDataCalico Pie you'll see that there are directories for diagrams, fact types etc.

Hope this helps

It is unfair to blame Microsoft for this one. The folder where Family Historian stores these files isn't one that a user should ever need to go into which is why they are hidden and won't appear in searches. A program should never require you to go into those folders and so if that is required then really it is Family Historian that is to blame on this occasion.

I am sure Nick is right, but I am firmly in the 'I hate Vista' camp and I hope to upgrade soon.

Thank you guys for taking the time and the effort to answer my plea... well, my whining!

The Gold Star for Smarty Pants of the Day (so far in 2010) is Bilko.

You are THE Man!

Someone who understands the strangely hypnotic yet hair greying (balding) nuances of Microsoft and it's never ending forward march on world domination. Your answer was right on the button and I am happy to report that the not so easy to remove custom query has now been removed, along with a couple of its cousins.

Thank you Bilko

And I am with you when it comes to comments about Vista. It is definitely a 'unique' piece of software engineering. It looks pretty on the surface, but like a nettle it irritates the hell out of you when you come into contact with it!
Thank you all for taking the time to assist. It is very much appreciated.
