Marriage to 2 sisters

I have a male ancestor who married 2 sisters and had siblings by both. When I make an All Relatives Diagram I get duplicate boxes and curved lines joining them. The curved lines do not print - which would be useful.

Preferably, is there a better way to make the diagram show the family relationships and the 2 marriages without the duplicate boxes and curved lines. Any help appreciated.[confused]

You can turn off the lines, by changing the duplicate detection option.

If you decide which side of the tree you don't want to show then you can simply hide the boxes in the normal way.

You should remember though that the duplicate boxes are showing the fact that these people are related in more than one way.

Thanks for helpful reply - I've hidden unwanted boxes and put an individual note in the box of the second sister to show she was related to the first. Seems a good compromise.

Is there a way to print the curved lines - if I want them in future - have I missed a check box somewhere!?

Just found 2 more instances of spouses marrying sisters! Is my family normal!?[grin]

I don't know if the families normal, but my Husbands Liverpool Catholic family seem to do it quite a bit, they even have two brothers marrying two sisters.

Going slightly off topic now, but Jane's comment about her husband's family reminds me that I have 2 brothers marrying a (widowed) mother & her daughter in my tree. Is it something about Liverpool? [wink]

Also in my husbands same generation, when his wife died, one of the brothers above married the widow of a different brother.

Don't forget that under the Deceased Wife's Sister Act
(1835) it was illegal (at least in England) for a man to marry his deceased wife's sister. The Act was repealed in 1907.

My great-grandfather married his late wife's sister (my great-grandmother) in 1881, so my grandfather and great-uncles and aunt were all illegitimate. When my great-grandmother remarried in 1905 she did so under her maiden name - it took me ages to work this out and find her! - so she at least must have been aware of the problem by that time. This was the 'big family secret' that my mother, our first family historian, was always trying to uncover but never did.

Anyone else got big family secrets? Ones that you feel comfortable sharing, obviously.
