Family Historian User Group

As a new FH user I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to help solve my problem [smile].

Our family PC has each of us set up as a different Windows user, and I've found that FH does not seem to keep each user's preferences (for things like box shape and colour, text colour, etc.) separate. My daughter has been building a tree of her own whilst logged in as herself and made several changes; when I came to continue mine I found her colours etc. all over my tree!

I've been experimenting with using the 'Save Diagram as Chart' option but I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it. I'd have thought that most preferences would be held at the user level, with the option to adjust them for separate projects (but that's probably another question!)

It's not something I have had problems with. As you have found the default preferences are per machine not per user.

What I would suggest is that you get your daughter to save her design as a custom diagram type, and make sure she un-ticks the save as default. You can then do the same for your custom layouts. Just remember to select them from the menu rather than the diagram icons.

Family Historian stores its settings in the registry and in some hidden folders shared by all users of the PC (Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataCalico PieFamily Historian). Why this area is used instead of the user's own area is one of the weird illogicalities about the program. There is no advantage that I can see of to having it there and many disadvantages, your issue being one of them.
