I created a diagram and saved it as a chart, with expansion buttons showing. Some of the branches had been turned off. However, I must have made a mistake on the diagram, because when I reopened the chart I found that all the descendant boxes from one person (myself!) were not shown. To my surprise, there were no expansion buttons below this person, so I couldn't remedy the problem immediately. (I noted that there were no expansion buttons below other people who have children). Most or all expansion buttons were shown on the chart for other people.
Is it the case that if one has closed an expansion button when the diagram is still a working diagram, it cannot later be reopened when the diagram has been saved?

You should be able to turn them on and off using the 'Expansion Buttons' on the Button bar.

Yes, I agree Gerry. I tried that but the missing buttons didn't reappear. (I assume you mean the icon over to the right in the diagram toolbar at the top).

V4 Charts - missing expansion buttons
Have you tried using Show Hidden Boxes in the Diagram menu?ptl12 said:

V4 Charts - missing expansion buttons
Hello Peter
Thanks for your reply.
I do believe that SHOW HIDDEN BOXES might work, but I was reluctant to use that, since I had worked for a long time to fit my diagram into a 1-page A0 sheet (via Save as PDF) and paid a lot to print it, and I had previously experienced that if you clicked SHOW HIDDEN BOXES it rebuilt the entire chart. I had already had the A0 chart printed and I just wanted to expand (on the same chart) the one branch which I had omitted in error and print it on A4, so that I could paste the A4 onto the original chart. As far as I can see you can't SHOW HIDDEN BOXES just for one person's descendants (I did try that).
In the end I got over the problem by importing a small tree onto the existing chart, lining up the new tree exactly with the old one and then printing one A4 page from the resulting 22 * A4 page chart. A bit of a bodge, and I wondered if there was some way of getting Family Historian to do what I really wanted to do.
Thanks again
Philip
