I am a new user trying to store my projects on a laptop but doing most of my work on a LAN connected desktop. My objective was to work on a regular basis using my desktop with two large monitors and to be able to pick up my laptop at any time and travel with my project file.
The problem that I am having is that the file on the laptop's project file is not a complete gedcom but is a tmp file.
I am returning home from a trip and the file on the laptop works on the laptop. When I try to open it from the desktop, it responds that the file does not exist.

Project files and Gedcoms
I think you would be better to use a sync tool to keep copies on both machines, I suspect you may have permission problems writing back to the Laptop from the desktop system.
My solution for using the same Project on both my systems is to use Dropbox to keep the machines in step, this has the added advantage that I automatically get a backup as well.
Just do a search on this site for Dropbox for more information.
