Printing a Multimedia Item
Is there any way of printing a 'multimedia' item within FH without opening it in another graphics package?
If I want to print a census document (jpg) I ether have to open it in the media folder (which opens the graphics programme) or open it via the graphics programme. I can't seem to print it from within FH.

On Version 4, just use the Multimedia Report on the Reports menu.

That only seems to work for graphics files (jpg/tif etc). Is it possible to print a .pdf, .doc or other sort of file from within FH?

Printing a Multimedia Item
Dear Jane,
I have copied the Multimedia report to a custom Report and have modified it to remove all data around the item, I have hidden all the data, sources, etc but still have the text associated with the multimedia item as entered in the 'Individual' facts/multimedia panel.
What do I turn off to remove this text so that I can print just the multimedia item only, no text etc.
Regards
John Y

Gerry, you can just click the red arrow to open your non image formats in the tool needed to print them.
John: If you only want the image and not the information, you might be better just using the red arrow to launch your default graphics viewer.

Thanks, Jane, but that doesn't help if I want to print the non-graphic media file as part of a FH report. For example, I have some trial reports in pdf format that give useful ancestral information not otherwise available (eg place of birth, age, marital status etc). It would be great if these could be printed along with other media.
Would it be possible to add this as a wish list item, please?

Why not just convert them to tif or jpg format?

Jane,
Thanks for the tip - I hadn't thought about .tif images which, of course, can be multi page.
I really don't want to produce separate images for each page of multi-page documents, some of which (such as directories and court reports) run to 20 pages or more. But FH only seems to display and print the first page - any idea how I can get round this?
With a bit of experimenting the following produces useable (multi-page) images:
1. Load pdf into GSView
2. Go to File>Convert
3. In the Device column select Tiff24c
4. In the Resolution column 204x196 (lower if you prefer).
5. In the drop down box select 'Variable Page Size'
6. Select pages required (Click for a single page; Shft-Click for a range; Ctrl-Click for a non-continuous selection; or 'All Pages', 'Odd (or Even) Pages')
7. Click OK and select output destination
8. Click Save and sit back util the conversion is done!
There may be other software that will do the same conversion but GSView (the front-end for Ghostscript) is free (or donation).
So part of the problem solved!

Personally I have created multiple images for the documents I have of this variety, I then simply create a sub-directory for each document and link all the images to a single source.
