Upgrade amp; transfer of info 2.1 to V4

Post by BenB » 13 Jan 2010 09:35

Hi

Not being that much of a techno-phobe I wonder if someone can furnish me with advice.

I purchased FH 2.1 some years ago and downloaded some upgrades & patches to 2.2. I have some 230 records and lots of info in the 'Notes' I have not used 'Objects' but now wish to import photos and copies of certificates.
I think the newer version4 maybe better for that purpose?
Q:Do you think it will be?
and
If I upgrade how much hassle is involved in transferring ALL my current records & notes to a newer version?

Media handling is much better in V4; and all your current data should transfer without any work at all -- V4 will use the same GEDcom file as V2. (There is one exception to this, to do with Source Records if you have any that have more than one set of 'Actual text' but there's a program available that will help with this in the unlikely event that it affects you). Do read all the advice first on upgrading form V3 to V4 as much of it will be applicable to you.

I think I'm right in saying that you cannot use the v4 upgrade on version 2, it only works when you have version 3. Therefore you would need to buy the full version of 4

You do need to buy a full license, but the Full V4 edition will upgrade any existing V2 or V3 installation correctly.
