Hello,
I was wondering what other people do about multiple entries for year and place of birth. I'm thinking about Census entries from different years that show another place of birth and age for the listed person
Do you record them all ? If so can you make FH4 use one of those entries as the one it uses on screen and in reports ?
I'll be very interested to hear how others handle this issue.
Thanks, Peter

Multiple Birth Entries
Hi Peter,
I tend to only record the entries I am most sure about, usually from a birth certificate for example. If I don't have this available, I use a date from another source but mark this as 'Calculated', etc.. I have found census ages to be too inaccurate to be listed as a supplementary date of birth, but I do record the age in the Census record field.
I have not had the situation yet where I have two sources giving different dates of birth where I was unable to resolve which was the correct one.
I think FH4 uses the first DOB, and the order of this can be changed in the ALL tab I believe.
Regards, Adrian

Multiple Birth Entries
I use both multiple birth entries and single entries depending on whether it's not clear which is the correct date or if there is a wide discrepancy between the dates.
For example, 22Apr1864 or 25Apr1864 - either could be right and the difference is probably due to a transcription error in which case I use a single birth entry and document the difference as a note about a possible transcription problem. With 1855 or 1857 being the dates I would record them as two separate birth entries, though again documenting the inconsistency in a note. Due to the inaccuracies of censuses I don't tend to use them to source births from unless it is the first and only source, and then the date is recorded as calculated.
