Website Links using FH

Sorry if this has been dealt with earlier.

When building a website using FH any links to external websites are cut short if there is a ';' in the address.

Example from my website: (William Bye (Witness at the Old Bailey))
URL: http: //www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=t ... =t18690405 -423#highlight.

The link is live (Underlined) up to
URL: http: //www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=t ... 5-name-291&;

The last part, div=t18690405 -423#highlight, shows as normal text.

Is there a cure for this problem, apart from using a HTML editor.

This problem has existed since page generation was introduced and I mentioned it recently in another post but without any reaction from CP. See http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... y&num=4169

I believe it arises not with a semi-colon (;) but with the use of the ampersand (&) character where a semi-colon seems to be incorrectly inserted after the ampersand (even though in the case you have quoted, a semi-colon is part of the address. Have you checked the actual address in your database?).

The ampersand has a special place in HTML and for standards compliance should not appear as just '&' but should be shown as '&'. My guess is that FH is trying to correct any single ampersand but the code is only inserting ';' instead of 'amp;'.

Even if this is fixed Narrative Report pages still won't be standards compliant as every page has a missing on it as well.

Steve, the Old Bailey changed its site this year and many addresses have changed. The one you quote no longer works, with or without the semi-colon.

It must have stopped working just before Xmas, was ok when I last used copy and paste.

Now have to take the Old Bailey website to task, when doing a search on Surname Bye no records are found.

Dear Steve,

This has been a problem affecting a number of users searching for
short names (three letters or less). We are correcting it in the
site's annual update which is in progress at the moment. I'm not sure
exactly when this particular correction will be implemented, but it
should happen very shortly. I'll try to let you know when I know that
it's been done, but if nothing has changed by the end of this month,
do get in touch again to let me know.

This is probably the default word index on MySql, they just need to change the parameter on MySQL to index words less than 4 characters.
