Text schemes in diagrams

Post by AlasdairMacG » 06 May 2004 18:27

I am trying to find a list of all codes for text schemes in a diagram, but cannot find one. Specifically I want my diagram to show full names, dates of birth, marriage and death (where applicable) in format dd/mm/yyyy.
Any help greatly appreciated! Thx.

The codes for the text schemes are called data references.

The best way of working with them is to use the Data Reference button or the custom Query dialog.

There is some information in the help file under 'understanding data references', in addition if you use the reference dialog on the left of the column tab on the query window the bottom panel displays each option and what it does.

So for example a data in dd/mm/yyyy format is returned by using DATE:ABBREV3

So for a Birthdate as you want it formatted you would use

Birth
B: %INDI.BIRT.PLAC%%INDI.BIRT.DATE:ABBREV3%

Death
D: %INDI.DEAT.PLAC%%INDI.DEAT.DATE:ABBREV3%

One word of warning with using dd/mm/yyyy dates, americans can get very confused with them.

Full name is simply
%INDI.NAME%
again see the data reference button prompt for more information.

Thank you Jane - I take the point about date format and Americans being confused! I will therefore use date format dd/mmm/yyyy to avoid any possible confusion.

Query 1.
I know I am being thick but please where do I find the data reference button?
Query 2
I have modified my text scheme and all is well except that I would like to shoe all names of spouses.
I have change the code to:
{if male & no spouses & uplicates} Sp. %FAM.WIFE>NAME%
{if female & no spouses & duplicates} Sp. % FAM.HUSB>NAME%
but I am still only getting the preferred name on diagrams.
Please advise
Many thanks

Peter

The insert data reference button in on the bottom left of the text tab of the diagram options.

If you want to show 'all spouses' on all boxes the best bet is to miss out the controls and use

%INDI.~SPOU[1]>NAME[1]%
%INDI.~SPOU[2]>NAME[1]%

Will show the first two spouses names.

Where is the prefered name, check the scheme, don't forget to check all the box types and remove : PREFERED from all the boxes

Having stated boldly that I will use date format dd-mmm-yyyy to avoid confusion with US date formats etc., I cannot see how to get dd-mmm-yyyy format! Any instructions gratefully received![oops]

Try

%INDI.BIRT.DATE:COMPACT%

Does not have the /, but uses Mar, Jun, etc
