merging of duplicate spouse
Apologies if this has been discussed I have read one but doesn't refer exactly what I need. I have already merged 2 records of Jane Power m to John Jess, now in the Individual records they both have 2 tags for spouse(duplicate of each other.) and on each one show 1 child 1st one Eliza Adeline Jess and 2nd shows Charles Timothy Jess, there is only one IDnumber for both John's and one for both Jane's how do I combine them now and only have 1 spouse each? Do I use a query?
help needed and appreciated.[cry]

When you merged the individuals you forgot to merge the Family Record.
Go to the Record Window/Family Tab then find the two family records, select both and then select Edit/Merge Compare Records

Hi Jane, Thanks for the reply, I have tried to do as you describe, it only will select 1 of the John Jess' the other because its on the same tab won't let me select it, also tried to select Jane(wife) but still won't do that either
I guess because they are on same ID number.? any suggestions for next step?

Jane,
Sorry about this, I am only able to select one of the records to merge wil not allow me to select the 2nd record as they both have same ID number. Can I just delete one entry for husband and 1 for the wife without losing anything about children?

You can select the second family with CTRL Left Click or select one, go to Edit>Merge/Compare and then select the second family.
I don't advise just deleting one family. You may end up with un-intended orphans!

Sounds as if you might have a problem with your Gedcom file. Try loading it into FH and then do a File>Validate.
Did you try the second method - chose one family then Edit>Merge/Compare records?

You get this message if you attempt to merge with only one record or more than 2 records selected. This can be either because you have selected more than 2 records in the record window or have only one record showing in the 'Select Records To Be Merged' window and click on the OK button.barbaramac said:

In the first case, left click on the first record, then ctrl+left click on second record, then select Edit->Merge/Compare Records. In the second case select a second record from the list in the left hand side of the 'Select Records To Be Merged' window and click the '>' button to put it in the selected records list, then click the OK button.

Thank you for trying to help me. Have done as you say...still can't select 2 records : they are both on the SAME tab, have the same ID # When I view individual record of husband it shows JOHN George JESS spouse : Jane Power
Child:Eliza Adeline, the second tab for a second spouse also has Jane Power but with the other child:Charles Timothy. The reverse when looking
at individual record of Jane Power (2 husbands named John Jess) that is why I can't select the second record even from the list on left hand side (select records to be merged)both John & Jane listed only once. I feel like just forgetting it but I know thats not what I should do.

I think you are still on the Individual Tab, make sure you are on the Family Tab.
