Marriage date with no spouse not saved
Is this a bug?
If I add a marriage date in the property box for someone who has no spouse recorded, it lets me enter and confirm it, but doesn't seem to store it anywhere.
And if I then click Add Spouse/Partner the date disappears.
This even happens if they have a child but no spouse, and therefore has (as I understand it) a family record.

I think so, I will pass it on, I'm intrigued as to how you have a marriage date with out a spouse, or is it just you entered the date before the spouse.

It's happened to me a few times but I've only just got round to reproducing and reporting it. Usually because I just fill in the boxes in the wrong order (but there shouldn't be a 'wrong' order in a conventional dialogue box), but occasionally because of incomplete research (and after all, the beauty of something like FH is that you can fill it in as you go along) where I've come across a reference to their marriage but still don't know the spouses name. Seems daft to have to add an unnamed individual for this purpose. If it's required, fair enough, but it should either store the date somewhere, or not let me enter it in those conditions.

The same applies to the Place by the way.

That's certainly odd. My Individual Property Box doesn't display any marriage fields unless there is a spouse. On the Main tab, I have to click on Add Spouse/Partner first, which creates a new Individual record '[unnamed person]' and a corresponding Family record in which date, place, etc. are stored. On the Facts tab, I can add a family ('red-spot') fact, e.g. Marriage Event, and click New... on the Select Family dialog, then just click OK on the Create Family Record dialog (without selecting a spouse), then click OK to create a new family record for {Individual} with no spouse. I can then enter date, place, etc., on the Facts tab, or use the Main tab which now shows a '' tab. Either way a new Family record has been created, and no associated data are lost.[smile]

For me (V4.0.2) it only arises if there is already a child but only one parent. The Marriage Date and Place boxes display but anything typed in them is lost. Quite logical really - if you are married you must be married to someone so I would expect to enter their name before entering the marriage date. Even 'Unknown' would be sufficient and would clock up that more research is needed to identify the spouse.

I have had a couple of cases where a child has been the result of a 'Brief Encounter' where a woman has become a One-parent family. In this case there is, obviously, no marriage. Often, there are no details available or forthcoming about the child's father. I have tried to set the Marriage Status to 'Unmarried Couple' or, better still, to 'Unknown'. Again, the drop-down box is available and options may be selected, but without a partner for the mother nothing is saved.
In these situations there is justification for setting a Marriage Status. My vote would be for having the facility of a Marriage Status without a Partner.

I entered some nonsense data for the Sample Project via the Facts-tab method I outlined above:

and saved the GEDCOM file which now contains the following for the new one-spouse family:

Peter it works on the Fact tab, it looks to be just a problem on the Main Tab, Calico have confirmed it is a bug. The boxes should either appear and record or not appear.

Sorry to cause so much controversy... I hadn't realised when I posted this that it only arises if there is already a child, and presumably therefore a family record.

Not a problem Chris, as I said it's not working correctly and Calico are now aware of it.
You can of course enter the information you need for Status in the short term using the All Tab and any marriage information on the Fact Tab, for now and when the fix is done on the Main tab as well.
